A place to rest with a fantastic view all around can be of a reprieve after a tiring journey! PIRPANJAAL DIARY... By: M S NAZKI

So sit at Bhimber Gali (Bee Gee) sit a while and of course stop a while to enjoy the environment over a cup of tea. The facility has been lined up just for the people! , Writes M S NAZKI...

‘Ever since I was a kid I have been seeing the Indian Army deployed doing something or the other both from the operational as well as from the point of view of helping the people in the vast hinterland which needless to mention is extremely beautiful. Perhaps they all believe in one thing: do something nice for the people today to tell them find some quiet, sit in stillness, breathe. Put your problems on pause. You deserve a break because taking a break can lead to breakthroughs. Trust me this is a place to sit and enjoy for a while and I would put it straightforwardly across that if there is a place you can go to break away for a little while? If you haven't yet built your tree house, it's never too late to start. Just sit underneath this beautiful resting place, ponder over and get going. Yes I’m talking about a construction made by 120 Brigade deployed here at Bee Gee. Yes it could be considered as a shed but I will put it this way that it is for the people who think that it is big enough if you are chancing that you could get into a sort of happy colorful reverie for a short while’

· The top man, the officers and the men in 120 Brigade are people who are born to have ideas making fleeting overruns in their brains that is why they end up doing something innovative and something interesting for the people.

· You start with anything and trust me you will end up with everything as doing something for the people.

· The primary task was always keeping the opposition on the other side of the LOC deflated. That was done explosively; the second was to keep the terror factor away. That was done so in an ultra ballistic way and the third was to drive away the fear psychosis amongst the people that had driven them nuts. That too was done in an immaculate and precision driven methodology.

· The men in camouflages can be seen anywhere and everywhere like the moving pine trunks and the latest in vogue is helping out the people as the invisible virus has created confusion and chaos. If someone is keeping their heads about when the others are losing theirs.

· Jammu-Poonch road and further into the Kashmir valley is a hectic route as vehicles keep moving and the kind and type could and can be any. The halt at Bee Jee in one way or the other is mandatory because from the point of view of the security but by default it is also a time for a break to move around and see the expansive landscape around. If you are a first timer trust me the whole affair can be gorgeous.

· Take it this way, let’s loosen up some time and take a break to re-calibrate our life. We need no endless over-thinking, though. Let’s just connect the dots, set the scene, and steam ahead. That’s the spirit and incidentally a great facility has been created for this purpose.

· If you are a regular as people from Jharranwali Gali, Surankote and Poonch are then try to pause each day and take a walk to view nature

Trust me every individual in Indian Army knows one thing, if I can draw the slightest smile across a single face obliterated by pain, in that act I will have begun to understand the power of an ordinary human being to perform the seemingly impossible in the life of another human being. And how can that experience do anything less than drive me to try and make the world smile. Ever since militancy broke out in Jammu and Kashmir the Army has been doing that almost all the time. Agreed that on just a minimal of occasions a bad deed could have occurred may be because of a compulsive environment yet the fact is that they have stood out as chivalrous knights fighting for the people and also dying smilingly for the cause of the Nation. Trust me they way they do things no one does. Because for those of us who live in a sunny and hot desert, a cloudy day is sometimes all we need to clear our minds. They are in the thick of steam and are always walking ahead with a clear mind!

As far as people go, the 120 Brigade only had one plan. Both were big, in one the terrorism that had run amok had to be nipped in the bud. The second was even bigger since the people had to be got out of the split personality syndrome. They indeed were great humans but the psyche had been split. They needed help but of what kind none was sure but the men who had seen and fought insurgencies all over the Nation knew as to what exactly had to be done. It was not easy though it looks great now. I told you many times before that these people love small joys and most of the big ones which never materialize into realities. The 120 Brigade built up small joys and with time they became bigger as the road roller of time moved. But mind you a man who has grown up still remembers the packet of toffees and lollipops once a soldier gave him. He may not be there but that legacy goes on and so do the sacrifices which have become immortal now.

I will tell you an incident here that happened a long time back when Sumdrong Chu happened. Units had to move out and where we had to go. Everyone had an idea as far as the situation room’s discussions go but it was not known as to where we had to land up. But the unit was to put up at about where the great stories of Sela pass emanate. After spending considerable time at a place called Lumpo I was told to get back to the unit in a small valley of a lake. Beautiful again but terrible in winters. But the same was a feast for an adventurer like me but not exactly disciplined (like I’m now). Anyway after six months or so we were back to the unit location but another order rather an instruction was awaiting. It was simple and concise, ‘you have to go down the slopes and something which interests awaits you?’. Frankly speaking I did not know what? But the orders were of such a kind that had to be obeyed. It was all about setting a resting place for an hour or so that men could have a break after travelling. But my ridiculous versatile brain told the company commander, just three courses more senior sir, why not a munch point too? Tiffin boxes are usually cold, especially from usually angry wives of army men who prepare in the mornings. For some time they do come and here also once in future they would’. ‘The call was shut up, you are to go on leave and better keep your ideas with you’. I had no option but to keep still. But trust me Guri, (Gurvinder Singh) put this idea across to the great discussion though a small aberration in the bigger scheme of things’. We got the resting place going, also the munch point with a frugal menu like, dosa with sambar, idlis, uttapam and maggi noodles (that was something new at that time’ prepared by army’s own master chefs! The program was a hit with a couple of units providing their rock and roll bands. The afternoon was reverberating with music’. But still the place reverberates. That time a simple object of small attractions but now an attractive Riverdale! I have seen it twice now after that! But once upon a time it did happen! Similarly Bee GEE is next up the chart. The beginning has been made and why not an extensive tour from the school going kids of UT Jammu and Kashmir! Both the identities would learn by identifying with each other because the home is one! If soldiers can then the younger generation definitely can. Why not yet another halt at what I would call, ‘the unique shed at Bhimber Gali’!

The people praise the Indian army in this region and that is not without a reason because these men of 120 believe that when things are not happening as planned just stop worrying and take an unplanned break to regain yourself. The people do and that is a lesson to be learnt big time. In this game, everyone needs a break to refuel, recharge, and jump back in full throttle.People of Mendhar have already, why not all of us. So visit Be Gee to see what is happening. Plenty is and people are rejoicing! They have a reason to do that! In the end I would only say that the purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well! But how many of us understand this theorem of geometry!
