On the occasion of One Day National Conference on Breast Cancer Awareness held at Govt Degree College Kupwara and organized by Department of Zoology, Dr Manzoor delivered the Keynote Lecture on Breast Cancer Awareness. The theme of the conference was Awareness, Education, Prevention, and Early Detection of Breast Cancer. The conference was inaugurated by Principal of the college Prof. Mohd Shafi Lone and attended by other professors and staff members of the college. The program was attended by more than 300 students, 40 registered participants including Assistant Professors and Associate Professors of various Degree colleges of the valley. Notable among them was Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Lone, Govt Degree College for Women Kupwara, and Prof. Abdul Rashid Govt Degree college Kralapora, Dr Mohd Altaf Bhat Coordinator Centre foe Interdiciplinary research CIRI, University of Kashmir besides Dr Sajad Ahmad from GMC Baramullah. Prof Prof. Mohd Shafi Lone, Principal Govt Degree College Kupwara discussed emerging trends of cancers globally, emphasized on awareness and early detection of breast cancer so that it is treated early. He congratulated and acknowledged the role of Department for a conference. The introduction to the conference was given by Prof. Mehraj Bashir. The organizing secretary of the Conference Dr Showkat Malik welcomed all the guests and introduced all the guests and gave the overall statistics of Breast Cancer across the globe. Dr Gh. Rasool highlighted various outreach programmes being organized by the Department in this regard. Dr Sajad Ahmad from SKIMS delivered a talk on breast cancer
The Keynote Lecture on Breast Cancer awareness was delivered by Dr Manzoor Ahmad Mir, Head Department of Bioresources who in his message urged that breast cancer awareness shall reach young generation so that they get awareness regarding risks factors, symptoms, prevention strategies, screening and early detection of breast cancer. In his inaugural speech, Dr Manzoor gave the overall scenario of breast cancer and said that all should work together to create a strategy for awareness and early detection of breast cancer that reflects the principles of ‘research-informed clinical practice. Dr Manzoor stressed on the role of Awareness and said is the key to success Breast Cancer Prevention. He said that Breast cancer awareness is an effort to raise awareness and reduce the stigma of breast cancer through education on symptoms and treatment. The goal of this campaign is to raise the public's “brand awareness" for breast cancer, its detection, its treatment, and the need for a reliable, permanent cure. He said that we need to pool and share our resources, using latest technologies for the diagnosis, treatment and awareness about breast cancer, he added. In his speech, Dr Manzoor gave the overall scenario of breast cancer and said that all should work together to create a national strategy for awareness and early detection of breast cancer that reflects the principles of ‘research-informed clinical practice. He said that breast cancer awareness is associated with individual generosity, faith in scientific progress, and a positive and optimistic "can-do" positive attitude. He in his message urged the all the female participants that be the brand ambassadors in this Campaign of Breast cancer awareness so that the message reaches to length and breadth of the valley. He stressed that the breast cancer awareness shall reach young generation so that they get awareness regarding risks factors, symptoms, prevention strategies, screening and early detection of breast cancer. Dr. Manzoor also highlighted the teaching and research activities of the Department of Bioresources and emphasized that the Department is actively engaged in Breast cancer research especially the Triple Negative Breast cancer which is showing highest prevalence in India. Dr Manzoor further said that, the need of the hour is to spread the breast cancer awareness among common masses through whatever channels possible so that breast cancer can be detected at early stages and lives saved. Dr. Manzoor also highlighted the teaching and research activities of the Department of Bioresources and emphasized that the Department is actively engaged in Breast cancer research especially the Triple Negative Breast cancer which is showing highest prevalence in India. Dr. G R Ganie Head, Department of Zoology presented the vote of thanks where he thanked all the stake holders for their untiring efforts to make this event this program a grand success. He thanked all the participants and stressed upon the need for conducting such programmes for awareness of general.
At last, in his public message Dr Manzoor stressed upon the need to educate the people about this disease, spread awareness so that this cancer is detected earlier and treated. Dr Manzoor stressed that we need to defeat the fear with hope. Mass awareness, education, screening and early detection are the key to bring the incidence and mortality levels down. Further he told that we have thrown the challenge open to these colleges where they have conducted these awareness programs that it is now their responsibility to conduct the workshops, seminars, quizzes etc to bring the levels of incidence and mortality levels of the breast cancer .
