Srinagar Acid Attack: Police files two separate charge sheets against accused

 

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday filed two separate charge sheets against three accused, including a juvenile twenty-one days after a young girl was attacked with abrasive chemical (acid) at Wantpora area of Hawal in the old city earlier this month.

The 1000 page charge sheet was filed before the CJM court and Juvenile Justice Board against two adults and a juvenile.

The charge sheet was filed against the three accused one of whom is a minorin the court of the chief judicial magistrate and the juvenile justice board, according to police.

 A man in the Hawal area threw acid on a 24-year-old girl after she rejected her marriage proposal.

According to police, he was joined by another individual who was also arrested, as well as the shopkeeper who sold acid to the accused.

A police official said a petition was also filed to try the juvenile as per the juvenile justice act as the crime is heinous and the juvenile is over 16, but below 18 years of age. Rakesh Balwal, SSP Srinagar, expressed optimism that the perpetrators would get exemplary punishment. He also hinted at appointing a special public prosecutor in the case.

It is to be mentioned here that a 24-year-old girl has suffered critical burn injuries in an acid attack, and after being treated at SMSH hospital for a few days, she was shifted to Chennai hospital on doctors' advice for her specialized eye treatment.
