30 students from J&K leave Ukraine's Moldova, on way to Romania.

Srinagar, March 1: A group of 30 Kashmiri students including a family from Jammu and Kashmir have left for Romania, reports appearing in the media said. They have left from Moldova.

The movement of this group is reportedly being helped by Moldova based volunteers comprising two youth from Haryana and three from Kashmir. Moldova is a tiny republic between Ukraine and Romania with a population of around 25 lakh people.

“4 more students from Kashmir have reached Moldova,” Dawood Peer, apparently who is briefed about the situation tweeted. “Students group in Moldova who are in contact with us are guiding them & they have left for Romania. We are thankful to the team at Moldova for coordinating. Hope to see all of them back home.” These include a few girls as well.

The tweet has a student talking about how they moved from their college to Kharkiv, one of the worst impacted by the conflict, and then to Odesa and finally made it to the border and crossed into Moldova. There are three border crossings between the Odesa state of Ukraine and Moldova. Kharkiv, it may be recalled here, is the most affected and most of the Kashmiri students are enrolled in medical schools here.

One student who has crossed into Poland, however, has lost his contact with the family.

Peer later added: “Students who are in Moldova informed me that Indian embassy representatives that came in Moldova today. They suggested the students to not travel to Romania until the embassy provides something to them. But they informed that students have the opportunity to travel from here to Bucharest airport by busses. As per the embassy evacuation flights will take time. So students won’t get any accommodations in Romania from the embassy.”

In Srinagar, reports said the Raj Bhawan has been provided with a list of 133 Kashmiri students who are stuck in Ukraine. However, more than 140 students have been traced so far.

There has been panic in families who have their wards in the war-torn country after a Russian fire killed a medical student from Karnataka.

Meanwhile, the Divisional Administration Kashmir has established a helpline for those residents, students of Kashmir who are stuck in Ukraine.
