BJP’s Aijaz Hussain Facilitates Resumption of Traditional Sand Mining in Jhelum

Srinagar, Jan 30 : Er Aijaz Hussain, District Development Council (DDC) member for Lalchowk and senior BJP leader, Thursday successfully facilitated the resumption of traditional sand mining in the River Jhelum, addressing a long-standing issue that has impacted hundreds of local miners since operations were halted in 2019.
The party said that through persistent efforts, Er Aijaz Hussain played a key role in identifying six crucial sites along the river where traditional mining can resume, ensuring a sustainable and structured approach to the practice. This move is expected to provide a significant economic boost to the local community reliant on the industry.
To mark the occasion, Er Aijaz Hussain personally oversaw the dispatch of the first boat carrying sand from Padshahibagh, symbolizing the official restart of mining operations. The development was met with widespread appreciation from the local community, which had long awaited the revival of this economic activity.
Er Aijaz Hussain extended his gratitude to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr. Bilal Mohiuddin, Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control, Director of Geology and Mining Department, DMO Srinagar, and other relevant departments for their efforts in making this initiative a reality. He highlighted the collective role of the administration in overcoming the challenges faced by local miners.
Er Aijaz Hussain underscored the importance of reviving the industry while ensuring environmental sustainability. He acknowledged the vital role of traditional mining in supporting livelihoods in Srinagar and reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for initiatives that foster economic growth and responsible resource management.
