Two LeT Associates Arrested With Chinese Grenades in Kashmir’s Bandipora SRINAGAR: Security forces arrested two suspected militant associates of Lashkar-e-Taiba in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district, Police said on Saturday. The two were arrested by a joint team of police, Army and CRPF at Sumlar Bandipora. “Acting on specific information regarding movement of terrorist associates, Police along with Army (14RR) and CRPF (3rd BN) at a checkpoint established at Sumlar near Fisheries Farm Bandipora intercepted two suspected persons identified as Abrar Ahmad Wani alias Abu Qadir and Danish Pervaiz, both residents of Sumlar, Bandipora,” a police statement said. “During checking, two Chinese grenades and other incriminating materials were recovered from them. They were arrested and shifted to the Police Station where they remain in custody,” police added. Police said the two were militant associates and were linked with LeT. Police have registered a case under relevant section of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in Police Station Bandipora. (UNI)

Employees Against the Principles of Constitution SRINAGAR: Senior CPIM leader Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami Saturday said that government can’t snatch the rights of employees guaranteed to them by the Constitution. He was reacting to the circular issued by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir regarding the use of social media by its employees. “Government employee is a citizen also and he has every right to exercise his freedom. A government employee can either support or oppose the government’s view and actions and depriving him of this right is against the law and the very principles of the Constitution,” Tarigami told news agency Kashmir News Trust. According to the new social media guidelines, no government employee shall, by any utterance, writing, or otherwise discuss or criticize in public or in any meeting of any association or body any policy pursued or action taken by the government nor shall he in any manner participate in any such discussion or criticism. Tarigami said that every criticism within the ambit of law and constitution is justified. “For this freedom and these rights, people have fought and now government can’t take these rights away from the citizens,” he said. He said it is injustice and totally unfair to stop an employee from even expressing his views on a price rise or social justice. (KNT)

NIA Arrests Program Coordinator JKCCS On Wednesday, SRINAGAR: National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Khurram Parvez, program coordinator of the Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Societies (JKCCS) in an NGO militancy funding case. “Following the first arrest made in the NGO Terror Funding Case on 20th March 2023, the National Investigation Agency arrested Khurram Parvez, Program Coordinator of Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Societies (JKCCS) and Chairperson of Philippines-based NGO Asian Federation Against Involuntary Disappearances (AFAD) on Wednesday”, reads a statement. “Investigations revealed that Khurram Parvez has been collecting funds under the garb of fighting for Human Rights, from various international entities/persons based abroad and channelizing those funds for funding terror activities in the Kashmir valley. He and his associates were also propagating a secessionist agenda through his various NGOs. Khurram Parvez has already been charge-sheeted in another NIA case. He was formally arrested upon production in this case today. The case relates to the militancy funding of organisations such as Lashkar-e-Toiba ( LeT) and Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM), by certain NGOs, Trusts, and societies based in the Valley, the NIA said. “Investigations have revealed that Khurram Parvez and his associates raised funds to support individuals who were involved in pelting stones at security forces personnel and also motivated others to extend similar support,” it said, “These trusts and societies, which have been under investigation, have utilized the funds raised by them to publish anti-national and incriminating material to cause hatred and disaffection towards the Government of India.” Parvez was actually arrested in November 2021 by the NIA and charge-sheeted on May 13 next year along with six others in another case. In an official handout, police said that while continuing its crackdown on harbouring militants & providing logistic support to them, Police in Bandipora in presence of Executive Magistrate attached double storied residential houses of Abdul Majeed Reshi father of accused Aijaz Ahmad Reshi at Gundpora Rampura and Mohammad Jamal Malik father of accused Maqsood Ahmad Malik resident of Chitte Bandipora jurisdiction of Police Station Aragam Bandipora, under section 25 UAP Act. The spokesperson further stated that both the accused persons were militant associates and stands already arrested. Accordingly, process for attachment of property belonging to the above accused falling within the ambit proceeds of militancy was initiated u/s 25 of UA(P) Act by the order of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir vide order No. DIVCOM- ‘K’/Rtn/05/2023 dated 10-02-2023, they said. According to the notice, the owner of these houses has been restrained to 'transfer, lease out, dispose-off, change its nature or deal with the said property in any manner without the permission of designated authority. Any violation will attract penal provision of law, reads the statement. (GNS)
