National Training Program on Natural Farming Begins at Directorate of extension SKUAST-K

Srinagar, Feb,25: A four-day National Training Program on Natural Farming was inaugurated today at the Directorate of Extension, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST), Kashmir. Organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, the program aims to promote sustainable agricultural practices and equip experts with advanced knowledge in natural farming.
Hon’ble Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K, Prof. Nazir Ahmed Ganai, who has been instrumental in establishing the Centre for Natural Farming at the university, played a key role in making SKUAST-K one of the fourteen designated centers for natural farming across India. Under his leadership, the university has emerged as a pioneer in the field.
Delivering the inaugural address, Prof. Raihana Habib Kanth, Director Extension, SKUAST-K, emphasized the need for a mission-driven approach to achieving excellence in natural farming. She highlighted the importance of sustainable agricultural practices for long-term environmental conservation and food security.
The event witnessed insightful contributions from leading experts, including Prof. Purshottam Singh (Professor of Agronomy), Prof. Parmeet Singh (Associate Director Research), and Prof. Farahanaz Rasool (Deputy Director Trainings), who discussed various aspects of natural farming and its practical applications.
The program has attracted program coordinators, scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), and experts from the Directorate of Extension, ensuring a broad-based impact across the agricultural sector.
The four-day training will cover key topics such as soil health management, water conservation, organic input production, and eco-friendly farming techniques, equipping agricultural professionals with the skills needed to promote sustainable farming in their regions.
The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Rusheeba Manzoor, Deputy Director, SAMETI, who acknowledged the efforts of all participants and reiterated the significance of collective action in advancing natural farming initiatives.
