SKUAST Kashmir Concludes Four-Day Training on Natural Farming

Srinagar, Feb, 28: The Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) Kashmir successfully concluded a four-day training program on the National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF) today. Organized by the Directorate of Extension, SKUAST Kashmir, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, the program aimed to promote sustainable and eco-friendly agricultural practices among farmers and extension professionals in the region.

 

Speaking at the valedictory session, Vice Chancellor SKUAST Kashmir, Prof. Nazir Ahmed Ganai, emphasized the importance of Natural Farming in ensuring food security, environmental sustainability, and farmer welfare. He highlighted the need for widespread adoption of such practices to reduce dependency on chemical inputs and promote healthy, organic alternatives.

 

Director Extension, Prof. Raihana Habib Kanth, stressed the significance of collaboration between farmers, scientists, and extension workers to create a resilient agricultural ecosystem in Kashmir. Joint Director, Agriculture Extension Kashmir, Shri Sartaj Ahmed Shah, lauded the strong participation of extension functionaries from various Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) and urged them to take the knowledge gained to the grassroots level.

 

During the program, participants underwent hands-on training and interactive sessions on natural farming principles, sustainable cropping systems, livestock integration, and bioinoculant preparation. Leading experts, including Prof. Purshottam Singh, Prof. Amal Saxena, Prof. Parmeet Singh, Prof. Lal Singh, Prof. Farhanaz Rasool, Dr. Rusheeba Manzoor, and several KVK scientists, provided insights into sustainable farming techniques.

 

The program witnessed enthusiastic participation from agricultural professionals, scientists, and extension workers, who committed to promoting natural farming practices among local farmers. This initiative aligns with the Indian government’s broader vision of sustainable agriculture, aiming to improve soil health, enhance farm productivity, and ensure a sustainable future for agriculture in Kashmir.
