Training on Integrated Farming System for Livelihood Security Concludes at SKUAST-K’s FoA Wadura

Sopore, Feb,01:The six-day training programme on “Integrated Farming System for Livelihood Security” under HADP (IFS) Project No. 13 successfully concluded at the Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura, SKUAST-K. Held from January 27 to February 1, 2025, the event aimed to equip farmers with the necessary knowledge and skills to adopt integrated farming systems (IFS), promoting sustainable livelihoods and boosting farm productivity.
Over 20 farmers participated in the programme, which featured lectures, interactive sessions, and practical demonstrations by renowned experts and faculty members from SKUAST-K. Topics covered included Vermicomposting technology for organic farming, High-Density Apple Plantation-based IFS models, year-round mushroom cultivation strategies, and the role of apiculture in income diversification. The programme also highlighted the importance of soil health and innovative approaches to enhancing rural livelihoods.
Field visits showcasing successful IFS models were included, providing participants with firsthand insights into practical applications. Dr Ashok Narulla.Former Director ICAR ATARI Ludhiana was the chief guest at the valedictory session. He emphasized the need to adopt integrated farming practices to boost agricultural income while maintaining ecological sustainability. Prof. Raihana Habib Kanth, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, was the Guest of Honor and spoke about the benefits of integrated farming systems in optimizing farm resources, increasing profits, and generating rural employment.
The programme, coordinated by Dr. M. Salim Mir (YP-III) and Dr. Ummaisa Rehman (YP-II), concluded with the distribution of certificates to participants. The initiative aligns with the broader objectives of HADP Project No. 13, aiming to promote sustainable livelihood systems and empower farmers for long-term socio-economic growth in the region.
The Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura, reaffirmed its commitment to conducting similar initiatives in the future to support the farming community’s growth and development.
