Eleven injured in gas explosion at MCCH Anantnag

Srinagar, Mar 1: Two children were among eleven persons who were injured in a gas explosion at Maternity and Child Care Hospital (MCCH) in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials said on Tuesday.

An official from the MCCH Anantnag said that an explosion, apparently due to a leakage in heating gas, occurred at the ticket section in MCCH Anantnag in which eleven persons suffered burn injuries.

He said some employees were also injured in the incident adding they have been shifted to GMC Anantnag for treatment.

Officials said the injured are being treated at GMC Anantnag with minor injuries and all are stable.

He identified the injured as Fayaz Nazir of Malknag and Sahil Raina of Bijbehara (both employees), Muhammad Abbas of Srigufwara, Sahil Khaliq of Warwan, Bittu Singh of Palpora Kulgam, Junaid Ahmed of Kokarnag, Zakir Tariq of Kachwan, Manan Javaid of Malknag, Rehana Farooq of DK Pora and mother-daughter duo Bilkeesa Akhtar and Ruby Manzoor, both residents of DK Pora Anantnag.

Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Dr Piyush Singla has taken cognizance of the incident and ordered an enquiry into the matter. Singla said the government will bear all medical expenses of the injured.
