Four poachers for killing ‘Sambhar Deer’ in Reasi


Jammu, Feb 12: Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested four poachers for killing wild 'Sambhar Deer' in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.

“On reliable information that few persons have hunted down a protected wild animal 'Sambhar Deer' by shooting with arms in Lamsora area of Reasi, a case was registered and manhunt launched,” Senior Superintendent of Police, Reasi, Shailender Singh said.

He said all four poachers were arrested. “A number of suspects were rounded up and asked to participate in the investigations,” he said, adding during the investigation, one Bittu Singh of Lamsora, Tehsil Bhomag was detained and during questioning he confessed about the commission of crime along with other criminals.

On his disclosure, his '12 Bore rifle' used in the killing of wild animals, was recovered while two more poachers namely Daler Singh and Sher Singh were also arrested.

 One Village Defense Committee Special Police Officer, Krishan Singh, who was also involved in the crime has also been arrested and his VDC Weapon issued by the department seized, said the SSP.

“He is disengaged as VDC SPO and his services have been discontinued,” said Singh.
