GMC Srinagar Urges Action Against Quackery After Rising Cases of Acute Liver Failure

HT NEWS DESK

Srinagar, Jan 22: The Post-Graduate Department of Pediatrics at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar has raised serious concerns over the growing practice of quackery, particularly in the Dara Harwan area, following multiple tragic incidents involving patients suffering from Acute Liver Failure (ALF).

According to reports in an official communication to the Principal and Dean of GMC Srinagar in possession with Associated News Bureau reads, the department emphasized that several patients previously discharged from the hospital sought unproven and unscientific treatments elsewhere. These so-called "miracle cures" not only failed to help but led to a worsening of their conditions. Many of these patients ended up back in the ICU with complications and, tragically, lost their lives.

The order highlights the urgent need for strict measures against unqualified individuals offering unauthorized medical treatments. It urges authorities to safeguard public health and prevent similar incidents in the future.

As quackery poses a significant threat to the health and safety of communities, the call for immediate intervention has garnered attention. Authorities and medical professionals alike are now expected to take concrete steps to protect vulnerable patients from such harmful practices. (ANB)
