Ramban, February 20: The Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Ramban, Er. Kuldeep Singh, along with a team comprising MVI Vishwajeet Raju and AMVI Darpen Sharma, under the guidance of Transport Commissioner J&K Vishesh Paul Mahajan,, conducted an extensive checking drive on NH-44, covering the Ramban-Magarkot stretch and the Magarkot-Ukhral-Pogal-Paristan-Senabathi route.
The drive was held on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Ramban Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary
Aimed to enforce strict adherence to traffic regulations and safety norms for passenger vehicles operating on these hilly routes.
During the drive, the enforcement team seized two vehicles—one Sumo and one Echo Taxi—at Police Station Ramsoo for operating without valid permits and fitness certificates. Several other vehicles found violating traffic rules and safety norms were also challenged on the spot.
As part of the initiative, ARTO Ramban held an interaction-cum-counseling session at Ukhral Bus Stand with drivers, conductors, and vehicle operators. He emphasized the three key pillars of road safety—Safe Roads, Safe Drivers, and Safe Vehicles—stressing the importance of timely vehicle maintenance, renewal of documents, and adherence to traffic rules to prevent road accidents. He directed all operators to refrain from overloading, overspeeding, and reckless driving, which are major causes of accidents on hilly roads.
Addressing the gathering, Er. Kuldeep Singh highlighted the critical role of drivers in ensuring passenger safety, especially on roads with high gradients, sharp turns, and blind curves. He urged drivers to exhibit patience, responsibility, and professional expertise while operating vehicles in hilly terrain. Acknowledging infrastructural challenges such as the lack of crash barriers and parapets on certain routes, he assured that all genuine concerns of drivers would be addressed on priority.
The ARTO said that efforts for road safety and strict enforcement of transport regulations to ensure safer commuting for the public will continue across the district.
