Farooq Abdullah Questions Govt’s Claim of Eradicating Militancy in J&K

Srinagar, Feb 6: National Conference patron Farooq Abdullah challenged the central government’s repeated assertions that militancy has been eliminated in Jammu and Kashmir, citing the recent militant attack in Kulgam as evidence that security threats persist.

Speaking at an event, Farooq Abdullah questioned the government's "premature victory claims" over militancy. "If militancy has truly ended, then why do such attacks continue to take place?" he asked, referring to the Kulgam incident in which an ex-serviceman was killed, and two women, including his wife, were injured. Abdullah criticized the government’s rhetoric, stating that bold claims made in Parliament, public addresses, and official statements do not align with the on-ground reality.

Asked whether he would take the initiative to unite opposition parties at the national level, Abdullah played down his influence, stating that collaboration among INDIA bloc members must be a collective effort rather than an individual responsibility.

Reiterating his demand for the restoration of J&K’s statehood, Abdullah expressed confidence that it would be reinstated. "It may take time, but it is inevitable," he said, adding that he was hopeful for a positive development in the future. [KNT]
