Langate,Apr,23:In A heartfelt display of unity and grief, the people of Langate gathered on Monday evening for a candlelight march to protest the recent tragic killings of tourists in Pahalgam. The event drew citizens from all walks of life, led by civil society members, local leaders, and MLA Langate Sheikh Khursheed Ahmad.
The gruesome incident in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of innocent civilians, has sent shockwaves across Jammu and Kashmir, prompting an urgent call for peace and justice. In Langate, the response was immediate and resolute.
Beginning from Main Chowk Langate, the candlelight march witnessed participation from students, traders, transporters, social activists, elected Panchayat representatives, Ex-Sarpanchs, Ward members, Ex-Municipal Town Committee Chairman Shah Nawaz Abdullah, Ex-BDC Showkat Hussain Pandith, DDC Khursheed Ahmad Dar, and other prominent figures.
Holding candles and placards, the participants walked in solemn silence, broken only by slogans condemning violence and calling for an end to bloodshed. The presence of MLA Sheikh Khursheed Ahmad lent weight to the march, as he addressed the gathering and the media.
"The barbaric killings are an affront to humanity," MLA Khursheed told Headlines Today. “We must stand united against this cycle of terror that continues to disrupt lives and shatter families.”
The participants expressed solidarity with the victims' families and voiced strong support for the security forces and administrative personnel working under difficult conditions to protect civilians.
“The administration and security forces are doing their best to ensure safety,” said one participant. “But we need collective efforts, both from the public and leadership, to restore peace in the region.”
The march concluded at the main gate of Sub District Hospital Langate, where a moment of silence was observed in memory of the victims. Candles lit the night sky, symbolizing both mourning and hope—a yearning for an end to violence and the dawn of lasting peace.
This poignant demonstration reaffirms Langate’s commitment to non-violence and its deep desire for a future where terror no longer casts a shadow over innocent lives.
