NC Leader Assadullah Elahi Blames PDP for J&K’s Instability

HT NEWS DESK

Srinagar, Feb 13 : Senior National Conference (NC) leader Assadullah Elahi has held the People's Democratic Party (PDP) responsible for the political and social instability in Jammu and Kashmir, accusing it of betraying public trust. He asserted that the people have reposed faith in the NC by giving it a strong mandate to safeguard their rights.

Elahi criticized PDP’s tenure, particularly under Mehbooba Mufti, stating that her leadership left lasting scars on the region. He reminded people of her controversial “milk and toffee” remark in 2016, which was widely perceived as dismissive of Kashmiri youth.

He further condemned Mehbooba’s alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), calling it a betrayal that enabled BJP’s political entry into J&K and ultimately led to the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A, stripping the region of its special status.

Elahi also pointed to PDP’s electoral setbacks, highlighting the defeat of Mehbooba’s daughter, Iltija Mufti, in Bijbehara—once a stronghold of the party. He stated that such a rejection indicates the people’s disillusionment with PDP’s governance and policies.

Declaring that Mehbooba and Iltija have lost the moral ground to criticize NC, Elahi contrasted PDP’s record with NC’s commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of the people. He urged Kashmiris to remain cautious of political forces that have historically aligned with those working against their interests, asserting that NC’s recent electoral success reflects public confidence in its leadership and vision for a stable and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir.
