'Voices in Kashmir Grow Louder For Liquor Ban’ Ruling NC MLA Introduces Bill Demanding Ban on Alcohol

Srinagar, Feb 12: Amidst voices growing louder in Kashmir demanding a complete ban on sale of liquor in the Muslim Majority region has got another push after the ruling NC MLA Lal Chowk Ahsan Pardesi has introduced a private member bill aimed at banning the sale and consumption of liquor in Kashmir and other Muslim-majority districts of Jammu and Kashmir. 

According to the reports, Pardesi said people of Kashmir don’t support liquor consumption and Islam strictly prohibits it.  

The legislator made it clear that the private member bill demands ban on liquor in Muslim-majority areas only.

"Our religion and society do not permit liquor consumption. The increasing accessibility of alcohol is negatively affecting our youth, leading to stress and addiction," 

Pardesi said the bill was an effort to protect youth from falling into such bad habits. (ANB)
