Kupwara Snowfall: Border Roads Closed, Locals Urge Clearance of Inner Link Roads

Kupwara,Jan,03:With the weather department predicting two consecutive western disturbances in Jammu and Kashmir, the district of Kupwara has experienced significant snowfall since the start of the new year. While the first disturbance caused moderate snowfall measuring around 3 to 5 inches across the district, it did not result in major disruptions. However, to ensure public safety, the district administration preemptively announced the closure of key border roads connecting Kupwara to Machhal, Tanghdar, and other areas.

Machhal, located approximately 7 kilometers from the Line of Control (LoC), remains one of the most affected areas. The residents of the region have commended the administration for its proactive approach in shutting down major roads, minimizing risks during the ongoing snowfall. However, the locals have raised concerns about the condition of inner link roads within the area, which remain buried under 4 to 5 inches of snow.

"We appreciate the administration's efforts to ensure our safety by closing the main roads. However, the inner roads are yet to be cleared, making it difficult for us to step out of our homes to purchase essential supplies," a local resident said.

The residents of Machhal have appealed to the District Administration to direct the concerned authorities to clear the snow from inner link roads at the earliest. They emphasized the urgent need for relief in the form of accessible pathways to enable normal movement within the locality.

The administration is expected to respond promptly to the grievances of the border communities, ensuring both safety and accessibility during the ongoing spell of bad weather.
