HT NEWS DESK

Srinagar, Jan 27: In a significant move to enhance the financial well-being of pensioners, the Jammu and Kashmir government has issued a new order revising the Dearness Allowance (DA) for employees, pensioners and family pensioners.

According to the reports, the announcement was made through Government Order No. 29-F of 2025, dated January 27, 2025, by the Finance Department of the Civil Secretariat, Jammu/Srinagar.

The revised rates, effective from July 1, 2024, increase the Dearness Allowance from 50% to 53% of the basic pension or basic family pension per month. This decision was based on the Council of Ministers' decision number 001/01/2025 dated January 20, 2025. Key highlights of the order include:

Arrear Payment: Arrears from July to December 2024 will be disbursed in cash in February 2025. These arrears will subsequently become part of the monthly pension or family pension starting from January 2025.

Rounding of Fractions: For the purpose of payment, any fraction of 50 paise and above in the Dearness Allowance will be rounded to the next higher rupee, while fractions less than 50 paise will be ignored.

Existing Provisions: All other existing provisions for the grant of Dearness Allowance remain unchanged unless they provide more favourable conditions. This adjustment aims to provide relief to pensioners amidst rising living costs, ensuring their pensions keep pace with inflation. The order, signed by Santosh D. Vaidya, IAS, Principal Secretary to the Government, Finance Department, has been communicated to various high-ranking officials including the Advocate General, Financial Commissioners, and Director General of Police, among others, for immediate implementation.

The announcement will benefit thousands of pensioners across Jammu and Kashmir, offering them a much-needed increase in their monthly income. (ANB)
