Srinagar, Jan 4: Amid reports of a Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) outbreak in China, renowned pulmonologist Dr Naveed Nazir Shah from Chest Disease Hospital Srinagar has assured that there is no cause for alarm.
Dr Naveed said HMPV is an old virus that typically causes respiratory infections similar to the common cold. He advised the public to follow general precautions to prevent the spread of infections.
“There is no specific treatment for the virus. The key is to avoid contact with others if you have symptoms of cold or respiratory infection,” he said.
Officials from India’s NCDC also confirmed there is no significant increase in respiratory infections in the country and urged the public to remain calm.
