Panch killed, Panchayat ghar gutted in Kulgam

Srinagar, Mar 2: A Panchayat member was shot dead in Kulpora Srandroo area of south Kashmir's Kulgam district this evening.

A Panchayat member identified as Mohammad Yaqoob Dar of Kulpora Srandroo Kulgam suffered serious bullet injuries in the attack and he was rushed to hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries.

Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Kulgam, Dr Muzaffar Zargar said the panch was brought dead to the hospital.

The area has been cordoned off to nab the attackers and further investigation has been taken up.

Meanwhile, a Panchayat ghar was gutted in a mysterious blaze in Damhal Hanjipora of the district this evening, officials said.

Officials said that a fire broke out in a Panchayat Ghar at Hariweth in Kulgam.

Fire tenders were immediately rushed to the spot to douse the flames.

Meanwhile, the Police team also rushed to the spot, officials said, adding the cause of the fire was not known.

Tehsildar Damhal Hanjipora, Niyaz Ahmad Bhat said the efforts are on to douse off the flames.
