Handwara, Feb 08: In A continued effort to combat the menace of drug trafficking, Handwara Police have arrested a drug peddler and seized contraband substances from his possession.
Acting on specific input, a police party from Police Post Langate, led by I/C Police Post Langate, set up a checkpoint at T Junction Kargam. During the operation, they intercepted a suspect identified as Javaid Ahmad Sheikh, son of Abdul Ahad Sheikh, a resident of Hanga Handwara. Upon searching him, the police recovered 7.67 grams of a brown sugar-like substance.
The accused was immediately taken into custody and shifted to the police station for further investigation. A case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Handwara, and further probe is underway.
The police have urged the public to report any instances of drug peddling or other crimes to their nearest police unit or dial 112 for immediate action. They assured strict measures against those involved in drug trafficking to safeguard society from this growing menace.
