Srinagar, Jan 28: In a significant breakthrough against the drug trade, police dismantled a major inter-state drug trafficking network, arresting two infamous narcotics dealers from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

“This success highlights the police's unwavering commitment to tackling the drug menace,” a police spokesperson stated.

Following a detailed investigation involving bank transactions and communication records, Raju Gupta from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, and Mohammad Abrar from Bhajanpura, Delhi, were identified as key suppliers of narcotics to local peddlers.

A specialized team from Srinagar conducted a 10-day operation in collaboration with local law enforcement in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. Gupta was arrested in Bareilly on January 23, followed by Abrar’s arrest in Bhajanpura the next day. Both suspects were presented in court, and transit remands were obtained to bring them into police custody.

Police also uncovered a suspicious courier parcel linked to the accused in Loni, Ghaziabad, which is now under legal review for retrieval. Investigators are scrutinizing the financial records and properties of the suspects, with potential attachments under the NDPS Act on the horizon.

The case traces back to a November 8 checkpoint at Tarbal Chowk, Srinagar, where police intercepted a motorcycle carrying three drug peddlers: Aijaz Ahmad Ganie, Owais Ahmad Gojri, and Mir Roman. During the search, police seized 140 bottles of a banned substance, Rs 38,530 in suspected drug proceeds, three mobile phones, and a drone allegedly used for monitoring drug buyers.

The backward investigation into this incident led police to uncover the larger network and the arrests of Gupta and Abrar.

With more arrests and seizures anticipated, police are doubling down on efforts to eradicate the drug trade and safeguard the community. This operation marks a significant step in disrupting the supply chain of narcotics in the region. [KNT]
