Handwara:Jan,21: A series of robberies has left the traders of Langate and Handwara markets in distress as thieves continue their activities during nighttime. The incidents have raised concerns about security in the region.
Langate residents told HEADLINES TODAY, that on rainy midnight of January 4/5, 2025, a bakery shop in Langate market became the target of these thieves. They broke the shop’s main shutter, stealing dry fruits worth ₹15,000, 15 money garlands, and a significant cash amount from the counter before fleeing the scene. The next morning, traders noticed the damaged shutter and missing items, prompting the concerned police officer to visit the spot for an investigation.
Barely two weeks later, during the midnight hours of January 19-20, 2025, another robbery occurred at a shop
located in a black corner of Handwara’s Jame Packed Sabzi Market. The shop’s owner discovered the break-in early in the morning and immediately informed the police. Local residents also gathered at the scene, expressing their alarm over the incident.
In response, Handwara Police registered an FIR (No. 18/2025) under sections 331(4) and 305 BNS of the Indian Penal Code. They released CCTV footage showing the suspects walking in Handwara market with a torch and using a cab, which was also captured in the footage. Police have appealed to the general public to help identify the culprits and the vehicle used in the crime.
