SIA grills Jammat chief, associates in unlawful activities case

Srinagar, Feb 17: State Investigation Agency (SIA) Wednesday questioned banned Jammat-e-Islami (JeI) president and his other associates in a case involving foreign funding, foreign operations and organizational activities.

SIA in a statement said that around a dozen people affiliated with the JeI were quizzed for more than eight hours about various unlawful activities, foreign funding and foreign operations and organizational activities of the religious group.

Questioning included properties of JEI having direct or indirect links with militancy funding. Believed to have its origin in foreign countries including, Uthe K, Canada, Bahrain etc. The interview is an investigation of JeI related case originally lodged at Police Station Batamalloo Srinagar, now being investigated by the State Investigation Agency, the statement read.

It further said the recent video and press release from banned outfit was also inquired in the light of foreign operations of JEI.

Those who turned up for the questioning include Abdul Hamid Ganaie son of Mohammad Yaseen of Nadigam Shopian (last serving Ameer Jammat)  at present  Wazabagh Hyderpora Srinagar, Abdul Salam Dagga son of Ghulam Mohammad Dagga of Baghi Islam Lal Nagar Chanapora (Ameer Tehsil North Srinagar), Peer Abdul Rashid on of Peer Ghulam Ahmad of Challan Kulgam (Rukn-e-Jamaat), Muzaffer Jan son of Habibullah Rangrez of Bohrikadal Srinagar (JEI Member) at present Nowgam Wanbal Srinagar, Tariq Ahmad Haroon son of Habibullah of Naidyar Rainawari Srinagar (Office bearer, last I/C JEI Office), Mohammad Yousuf Sheikh son of Gull Mohammad of Saidapora Harwan Srinagar(Rukn-e-Jamaat).

Some other associates were also summoned by SIA in case FIR No. 17/2019 under section 10, 11, 13 Unlawful Activities Prevention Act ULA (P) of Police Station Batamalloo currently being investigated by State Investigation Agency, the statement added.
