Will prepare for elections once Delimitation panel’s ‘vague picture’ gets clear: NC

SRINAGAR, Feb 22: National Conference (NC) on Tuesday said the party will prepare for elections once the vague picture of the Delimitation Commission is tasked to redraw boundaries of the various assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir is cleared.

The party also lashed out at the centre for maintaining alleged silence over the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir alleging that the Union Home Minister, Amit Shahs promise made on the floor of the Parliament is yet to be fulfilled.

Elections will be held six to seven months after the commission submits its report, we have been listening to this for the last two years. Once the vague picture of the commission is cleared, we will prepare for elections as our party has always been a staunch supporter of Democracy, NC general secretary, Ali Mohammad Sagar told reporters at party office, Nawai Subh here.

He said the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah assured the country that statehood will be restored to the erstwhile state at an appropriate time. However, no concrete efforts were made in this direction so far.

Nothing concrete has so far been adopted on the ground. People here feel suffocated; every section of the society including rich and poor faces problems. People want their own representatives in the elected government, rest NC is always ready for elections and whenever its confirmed that the panel's report has been finalized and its to be adopted, preparations will be started, Sagar added.

He claimed that Jammu and Kashmir was a full-fledged country till 1947 having its unique history and the same was first downgraded into the state and then to the Union Territory which he said is a tragedy.
