Women offer jewellery to ‘masquerader’ in Kulgam, police registers case

Kulgam, Feb 19: To save her life, a woman handed over her two gold rings after being threatened by a man at her home in South Kashmir’s Kulgam village on Saturday, police said. The incident occurred at Zaipora village in the Kulgam district.

Locals said that a man masquerading as a beggar entered the house and requested the woman for a glass of water. As the woman (daughter-in-law) went entered the kitchen, the alleged beggar followed her and threatened her with dire consequences in case she won’t hand over her golden rings.

The woman left with no option quickly took her two rings from the finger and handed them over to the man. The woman raised a hue and cry to attract the attention of neighbours but till then the alleged beggar managed to escape from the spot.

The husband of the woman who works as a Plumber in the Mir Bazar area of Qazigund said her wife is safe and sound. He however said her wife lost two golden rings while saving her life.

Station House Officer, Police Station Devsar S.S Reen said the alleged beggar had threatened the woman that he will electrocute her in case she takes her rings off. “The woman to save her life handed over two gold rings to the intruder,” he said and denied the reports that the alleged beggar attacked the woman and tried to chop her fingers off.

“We have registered a case and hopefully, the culprit will be nabbed,” the police officer said.
