Drug Peddler Arrested in Handwara; 9.14 Grams of Brown Sugar Seized

Handwara,Mar,24: In A significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Handwara Police arrested a drug peddler and seized a contraband substance from his possession. The action comes as part of the police's intensified efforts to combat the drug menace in the region.

 

During a routine Naka on GMC Handwara Road, a team from Police Station Handwara, led by Station House Officer (SHO) Handwara, intercepted a suspect identified as Abdul Wahid Bhat, son of Ab Khaliq Bhat, a resident of Turkpora Zachaldara. Upon conducting a search, officers recovered 9.14 grams of a brown sugar-like substance from him.

 

Following the recovery, the accused was immediately taken into custody, and a case was registered under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Handwara Police Station. Authorities have launched an investigation to trace potential links and uncover any larger drug networks associated with the accused.

 

Law enforcement agencies continue to emphasize the importance of community cooperation in tackling the drug problem. The police have urged citizens to stay vigilant and report any drug-related activities by contacting the nearest police station or dialing 112.

 

A police spokesperson reiterated the department's firm stance against narcotics and reaffirmed their commitment to strict action against individuals involved in drug trafficking. "We remain dedicated to eradicating the drug menace from our society. Public cooperation is essential in this fight," the spokesperson stated.
