Empowering Krishi Sakhi: KVK Kupwara Launches 5-Day Training on Natural Farming

Kupwara,Mar,20: To promote sustainable agricultural practices and empower rural women in farming, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kupwara (SKUAST-K)has launched a 5-day training program on Natural Farming. The initiative, aimed at fostering eco-friendly agricultural methods, saw an enthusiastic participation of 35 Krishi Sakhis on the first day.

The training program commenced with a series of informative lectures delivered by KVK scientists and an officer from the Agriculture Department. These sessions covered various aspects of Natural Farming, emphasizing its benefits in enhancing soil fertility, reducing chemical dependency, and ensuring long-term sustainability.

A brief discussion was also held between the Krishi Sakhis and the scientists, allowing for an exchange of ideas and experiences. The interactive session provided valuable insights into the practical challenges faced by farmers and the potential of natural farming in addressing them.

On this occasion, Head of KVK Kupwara, Prof. Kaiser Mohi-ud-Din, elaborated on the significance of Natural Farming and the crucial role of Krishi Sakhis in promoting these practices at the grassroots level. He highlighted how women farmers can act as agents of change, driving the movement toward sustainable agriculture.

Prof. Kaiser also shed light on pressing global issues such as climate change and water scarcity, stressing the urgent need to adopt environment-friendly farming methods. Additionally, he provided an insightful overview of the historical relevance of Natural Farming, drawing connections to ancient agricultural traditions that prioritized harmony with nature.

The training program at KVK Kupwara aligns with the broader vision of sustainable agriculture, equipping Krishi Sakhis with the knowledge and skills to implement Natural Farming techniques in their communities. By reducing chemical usage, improving soil health, and conserving water resources, such initiatives play a pivotal role in ensuring food security and environmental conservation.

As the training progresses, more hands-on demonstrations and interactive sessions are expected to further enhance the understanding and practical application of Natural Farming principles.

This initiative by KVK Kupwara underscores its commitment to empowering farmers, especially women, and fostering agricultural practices that ensure a sustainable and prosperous future.
