Mufti Slams NC for Ignoring Key Issues, Accuses Govt of Surrendering to Delhi

Srinagar, Apr 4: Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti on Friday accused the ruling National Conference (NC) of surrendering before New Delhi and ignoring pressing public concerns, focusing instead on bureaucratic transfers.

Criticizing Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s administration, Mufti said people had hoped the new government would safeguard their rights, but six months on, it had failed to address unemployment, employee terminations, or the plight of detained youth. Instead, she claimed, the government had shown weakness in every aspect of governance.

She pointed out that while NC legislators convened meetings over the Lieutenant Governor’s transfer of revenue officials, the party remained silent on serious issues like frequent raids, the continued closure of Jamia Masjid, and the suffering of jailed youth.

Taking a jibe at Abdullah’s earlier statement that his government did not want confrontation with Delhi, Mufti remarked, "No one is asking them to fight, but they have already surrendered." She added that even mentioning Article 370 was now off-limits for the NC, let alone discussing broader issues impacting the people.

Mufti termed the NC’s priorities a "joke" on the mandate it received, questioning whether voters had elected the party to debate bureaucratic reshuffles rather than address real hardships. [KNT]
