Surinder Chaudhary Slams BJP for Hypocrisy Over July 13 Martyrs and Maharaja’s Legacy

HT NEWS DESK

Srinagar, Mar 6: Jammu and Kashmir’s Minister for Industries and Commerce, Surinder Kumar Chaudhary, on Wednesday condemned the opposition’s remarks on the July 13 martyrs, calling their language inappropriate and disrespectful.

“Martyrs should be honored, regardless of their community or background. They fought for democracy, constitutional values, and the rights of the people,” Chaudhary stated, emphasizing the importance of remembering those who made sacrifices for Jammu and Kashmir.

His remarks come amid heated political debates over historical events and the region’s past leadership in the Legislative Assembly.

Targeting BJP leaders, Chaudhary questioned their inconsistent stance on Maharaja Hari Singh’s legacy. “If they admire the Maharaja so much, why did the BJP revoke Article 370 and 35(A), which were granted by him? Why did they dismantle the erstwhile state of Jammu & Kashmir and turn it into two Union Territories? Why don’t they talk about this?” he asked, taking a direct swipe at the opposition.(KNT)
