Shab-e-Baraat Prayers Disallowed at Jama Masjid for Sixth Year; Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Detained

Srinagar, Feb 13 : Authorities barred congregational prayers for Shab-e-Baraat at Srinagar’s historic Jama Masjid for the sixth consecutive year, as per the Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid. Following Asr prayers, the mosque was abruptly closed, and worshippers were asked to leave.

 

Meanwhile, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house detention earlier in the day, preventing him from leading prayers. The Auqaf strongly condemned the move, calling it a violation of religious rights that deeply hurts public sentiments. [KNT]
