Stinking Hospital: GMC Anantnag Battles Drain Overflow

HT NEWS DESK

Anantnag, Apr 15 : Patients, attendants, and medical staff at Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag have been grappling with an unbearable foul smell due to a blocked drain near the OPD Section and Cardiology Ward.

The stench, caused by the accumulation of stagnant waste and filth, has made it extremely difficult for people to spend time inside the hospital premises. Visitors and patients have expressed deep concern over the unhygienic conditions, saying it adds to the distress of those already battling illness.

“It’s hard to breathe in here. The smell is nauseating and the hospital environment feels more toxic than curative,” an attendant told the news agency Kashmir News Trust.

Even doctors and paramedics working in the affected areas have reportedly raised the issue with the administration, citing how the foul odour is impacting both patient care and working conditions.

Deputy Medical Superintendent, Dr. Kulbeer Singh, acknowledged the problem and said the hospital administration has already approached the concerned contractor from the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department, which had constructed the drainage system.

“We are aware of the issue and regret the inconvenience. The contractor has been contacted, and hopefully, the drain will be repaired within a day or two,” Dr. Singh said. [KNT]
