Five-Day Training Program Empowers Ganderbal Farmers with Advanced Agricultural Techniques

Srinagar, Mar,04: A five-day training program aimed at equipping farmers with modern agricultural knowledge and techniques commenced today at the Directorate of Extension, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K). Organized in collaboration with the Agriculture Department of Ganderbal, the program seeks to enhance farm productivity and sustainability by introducing farmers to the latest agricultural advancements.

 

Over the next five days, farmers from five blocks of Ganderbal will receive hands-on training in cutting-edge agricultural technologies developed by SKUAST-K. The initiative is expected to benefit 250 farmers, empowering them with the knowledge and skills necessary to optimize their farming practices.

 

Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-K, Prof. Nazir Ahmed Ganai, emphasized the critical role of the Extension Wing in disseminating technological advancements to the farming community. He stressed the importance of increasing outreach efforts to ensure maximum benefit to farmers across the region.

 

Prof. Raihana Habib Kanth, Director of Extension at SKUAST-K, welcomed the participants and underscored the significance of modern agricultural innovations in improving farm outcomes. She also introduced the farmers to various schemes available under the Holistic Agricultural Development Program (HADP), aimed at supporting and uplifting the farming community. Prof. Kanth provided a comprehensive overview of the latest technologies developed by SKUAST-K, highlighting their potential to enhance crop yields, improve soil health, and promote sustainable farming practices.

 

The inaugural session saw the participation of several distinguished guests, including Prof. Farahnaz Rasool, Prof. Purshottam Singh, and Mr. Zahoor Ahmed Dar, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer (SDAO) Ganderbal, along with scientists from SKUAST-K and extension officials from Ganderbal district. Experts from the university led practical demonstrations, providing farmers with first-hand experience in applying new agricultural methods.

 

During the technical sessions, Dr Aijaz Ahmed Malik, Dr Ummaiyah Masoodi, and Dr Rifat shared their insights on research-driven agricultural practices, emphasizing how adopting scientific techniques can lead to improved farm productivity. Mr. Zahoor Ahmed Dar acknowledged the significance of such training programs in addressing agricultural challenges and enabling farmers to make informed decisions.

 

Farmers attending the program expressed their enthusiasm and appreciation for the initiative. Ghulam Mohammad, a participant from Ganderbal, highlighted the importance of learning about recent advancements in agriculture. "We are excited to gain new insights and apply these modern techniques in our fields," he remarked.

 

The training program will continue throughout the week, covering essential topics such as organic farming, pest management, precision agriculture, and climate-resilient farming methods. With a strong focus.
