Langate, Feb,04: In a significant public outreach initiative, Handwara Police organized a Grand Public Darbar at the Langate Municipal Town Hall, marking the first such event since 2018. The event, held under the leadership of SSP Handwara Mushtaq Ahmad Chowdhary (KPS), witnessed a massive turnout, including members of civil society, traders, and the general public.
The event was attended by ASP Handwara, SDPO, SHO Handwara, DO Langate, and other senior officers. Hundreds of people from across the Langate block participated, engaging in constructive dialogue with the police leadership.
During the darbar, prominent figures such as Traders' President Lateef Ahmad Ganie, civil society members, former Municipal Committee Chairman, and Auqaf Committee representatives raised several key issues. The discussions primarily revolved around drug abuse control, water scarcity in various villages, and concerns of shopkeepers affected by new road developments near Jamia Masjid Shareef Langate. The Traders’ Union President emphasized that they fully support developmental projects but sought a grace period for rehabilitation before road expansion proceeds.
In his address, SSP Handwara reaffirmed the police’s commitment to serving the public. He assured that all grievances would be addressed promptly, directing his officers to work diligently for the welfare of society. He also urged the community, including civil society, Auqaf Committees, transporters, and traders, to actively participate in the fight against drug abuse.
The public appreciated the proactive approach of Handwara Police in combating drug abuse and tackling social issues, lauding their dedication to maintaining law and order. The initiative was seen as a vital step in strengthening police-public relations and fostering a collaborative approach to community welfare.
