Jammu, Mar 11b: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday announced the formation of a high-level committee, led by the Chief Secretary, to formulate a comprehensive plan for addressing the concerns of daily wage workers in Jammu and Kashmir.
The panel will comprise officials from various departments along with legal advisors to assess the exact number of daily wagers and explore viable legal and financial solutions for their regularisation.
Speaking in the Assembly, Abdullah took a dig at the previous PDP-BJP government, accusing it of failing to fulfill its promises. “Despite repeated assurances in their budget speeches, they only managed to regularise 570 daily wagers,” he said.
The issue took center stage during the budget discussions, with Abdullah assuring that the committee would present its recommendations within six months. [KNT]
