J&K High Court Stays Criminal Proceedings Against Former Ganderbal DC

Srinagar, Mar 18: The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has stayed its earlier directive to initiate criminal proceedings against the former Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Ganderbal over a false statement related to a property dispute.
The stay came while hearing a review petition filed by the UT administration. Justice Sanjay Dhar issued notice to the original petitioner, Abdul Majid Sofi, and suspended the specific directive mandating the Principal District Judge, Ganderbal, to consider criminal action against the ex-DC. The rest of the judgment remains unchanged.
The case involves a six-story building in Beehama, Ganderbal, leased to Central University Kashmir for a hostel. The dispute arose after the administration allegedly took over the property for housing politically protected persons without the owner’s consent.
The matter is now listed for the next hearing on April 22, with further action on criminal proceedings pending court deliberation. [KNT]
